Édouard de Luze is a French filmmaker, producer, and visual storyteller known for his artistic documentary work and immersive narratives that often explore creative identity and urban culture. He is the co-director of the 2023 film 24 Hour Sunset, a 16 mm-shot portrait of the Los Angeles art scene, distributed internationally via Apple TV and Canal+.

Biography

De Luze comes from a French winemaking family based in the Bordeaux region (Margaux). Before working in film, he studied communication and philosophy and spent time working in visual production, advertising, and art environments in both Europe and the United States.

He is now based between France, Portugal, and the U.S., and is known for his hybrid approach to documentary — combining vérité realism, experimental aesthetics, and an editorial eye shaped by his background in television and publishing.

Career

De Luze’s career bridges creative fields: he has collaborated with cultural institutions, artists, and musicians on films, brand documentaries, and installation works. His directing often integrates elements of visual culture, urban rhythm, and poetic realism.

In 2023, he co-directed and co-produced 24 Hour Sunset, a documentary filmed entirely on 16 mm in Los Angeles. The film, described as a “cinematic drift through the subconscious of a city,” features interviews with prominent artists such as Paul McCarthy, Raymond Pettibon, Louise Bonnet, and Kenneth Anger (in his last recorded interview). It premiered on Canal+ and was also released on Apple TV and iTunes in February 2024. The film was shown at institutions including the Fondation Beyeler and Lafayette Anticipations.

He is currently developing a second documentary project centered on musician Anthony Rossomando, co-writer of the Oscar-winning song "Shallow" from A Star Is Born.
