Educational and Social Research Organisation (ESRO) is a voluntary, non profit and non government social service organisation formed in the year 2007, for the welfare of the poor and the deprived. The organisation focusses its efforts on rural and urban development, child education, women empowerment and prevention of environmental pollution.

Activity[edit]

ESRO[1] as part of their mission, conducts regular welfare programmes like scholarships to meritorious and poor students to pursue higher education, Rural Education Aid Programme, Women's Day Programme, Awareness Programme, etc. ESRO also regularly executes Skill Development, Entrepreneurship Development, Women Empowerment through livelihood support programs, Child care programs, Solar energy utilisation projects etc cross India

ESRO supports education to underprivileged through financial assistance, especially to differently-abled youngsters assisting them through various means to lead productive lives and has conducted innumerable awareness programmes of social significance.

Women Empowerment[edit]

ESRO supports women empowerment by providing vocational training in tailoring, embroidering Etc. The NGO supported 200 women and groups of physically challenged women by providing high-end sewing machines, tricycles and tailoring machines. These initiatives are to make them financially independent and create an avenue for a sustainable income. Besides, ESRO also supports them with capital investment to start or develop their businesses. The motto of ESRO is to make them socially and economically stable, teach them a skill to generate revenue and create awareness on gender equality and prevent domestic violence.

Child Education[edit]

ESRO has been providing grants and scholarships to over 1,000 deserving children to encourage them in their studies. The sustained efforts are bearing fruit as many students from poor backgrounds are now pursuing higher education, including professional courses like medicine and engineering. Besides adopting schools to improve the quality of education, the organization provides career counselling and skill development courses for school dropouts. They also teach radio & TV repair operations, computer, mobile phone servicing and electronic appliances.

Rural Development[edit]

ESRO has been taking up rural development activities in a phased manner. From civil society programmes to health camps and hygiene awareness, the organization and its volunteers have initiated several programmes. With the sustained initiatives, the rural areas have become free from open defecation, and there is awareness of sexually transmitted diseases like HIV/AIDS.

Environmental Care[edit]

ESRO’s founder, Dr. EKT. Sivakumar has written and published several books on environmental conservation. The NGO has also conducted several programmes on clean water and sanitation and constantly comes up with ways to create awareness, take action and find an alternate solution.

Disaster Relief[edit]

ESRO has a well-connected, agile volunteer group working along with front liners in the time of disasters. During the first and recent wave of COVID-19, besides relief materials and food, they provided funds to people affected by the infection. During Chennai floods in 2015 and Kerala floods, ESRO assisted people and distributed relief materials, bed sheets, pillows, mats and cooking vessels for around 300 displaced families.
