Edward Gunawan

Edward Gunawan (b. 28 July 1982) is a Chinese Indonesian model, comic artist, actor and director.

Early life

Gunawan is born on 28 July 1982.[1] He was raised in a conservative Chinese family. In middle school he began to come out to his friends. He came out publicly when he moved to San Francisco, California.[2] As a child, he enjoyed Roald Dahl as his favourite author.[3]

Career

Gunawan started his film career as a producer for the 2006 film Still, which was directed and co-produced by Lucky Kuswandi.[4] In 2008, he produced Laundromat. The film was awarded Audience Award for Best Short Film in the 18th ReelPride: Fresno LGBT Film and was nominated for the Jury Award For Best Director of Short Film Laundromat at the 19th Clip Tampa International Gay and Lesbian Film Festival.[3] Payung Merah, a film he co-directed with Andri Cung in 2010, won at the Asian Short Film Awards in 2011.[5] He was nominated for a Maya Awards for Best Newcomer in 2012 for his role in Arisan! 2.[6] He produced Sagarmatha in 2013.[7]
