Eileen Murphy[1] (April 21, 1981) is an American artist[2][3] living and working in New York City. She is best known for her oil paintings[4] of the Hudson Valley. She is currently the Lead Professor of Drawing, Painting, and Printmaking at the Institute of Art and Design at New England College.

Early life and education[edit]

Murphy[5] was born in Mount Kisco, NY. She received a degree in studio art and art history from Mount Holyoke College in 2003 and an MFA from Pratt Institute in 2006.

Career[edit]

Her work is shown at Sears-Peyton Gallery[6] in New York City and at Carrie Haddad Gallery[7] in Hudson.

In 2019 she was commissioned by Kehinde Wiley to make a piece for his personal collection.; James L. Brooks also owns several of her pieces. In 2017 Murphy participated in the Art in Embassies Program at the US Department of State and was invited to give a series of lectures and workshops in Algiers, Algeria.

Murphy[8] was awarded residencies to the Vermont Studio Center in 2004 and to Yaddo in 2013 and 2017. She received the Individual Artist Award from the Santo Foundation[9] in 2017; in that same year, she was invited by the US Department of State to participate in the Art in Embassies Program.[10][11]
