Ein Student aus Uppsala (English: A Student from Uppsala) is a song performed by the Norwegian artist Kirsti Sparboe. It was written by Georg Buschor and Heinz Meier (under the pseudonym Henry Mayer). The song is about a romance with a student in Uppsala, Sweden, which is home to Uppsala University, the oldest institute of higher education in Sweden. The song was released in the Swedish, Norwegian, and German languages; it was most successful in West Germany, where it reached #15 on the music chart.[1]
The song has since become popular among Uppsala University students.
The song's title makes use of wordplay: in German, the name "Uppsala" sounds like the exclamation you use when you make a mistake or are surprised, similar to the English expressions "whoops" and "oops."
