El Salini attack
On 19 February 2020, insurgents attacked El Salini military base in Lower Shabelle, southern Somalia.[1] A suicide bomber detonated, then gunmen charged in and briefly occupied it.[1] The attackers killed 12 soldiers, injured the base's commander and stole ammunition and weapons - including pickup trucks with anti-aircraft guns fixed to them.[1] Jihadist group al-Shabaab claimed responsibility.[1]
