Elastic Games is a Canadian multinational video game developer and is headquartered in Mile End, Montreal. It is known for developing games such as Police Warfare and Last Year.[1]

Previous History[edit]

The name Elastic Games had previously been used for a Kickstarter campaign called Police Warfare. The choice was made to cancel the Police Warfare Kickstarter campaign with the intention of eventually returning to Kickstarter with a prototype of the game. However, the game was eventually put on hold to pursue more promising projects.

Refounding[edit]

The name Elastic Games was resurrected when Last Year successfully raised development funding from the Canada Media Fund to produce a different game: Last Year. Elastic Games was then officially founded in December 2015 by three former Square Enix Montreal developers who now make up the core development team on Last Year. The team included Charles Goatley (Lead Programmer), Alexander Halchuk (Lead Artist), and James Wearing (Design Lead).

Games[edit]

Elastic Games is best known for the upcoming game "Last Year" and the cancelled project "Police Warfare".

Employees[edit]

Elastic's team is composed of three developers who can wear multiple hats and do multiple jobs. This enables the team members to contribute in multiple areas of expertise and stimulate collaboration while streamlining production.

Some of the games the team members worked on previously includes Far Cry 3, Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon, Assassin's Creed 2, Crysis, Lara Croft GO, Hitman Go, Hitman Sniper, Viva Pinata, Modern Combat 4, Asphalt, Iron Man 3, and more.

Controversies[edit]

Crystal Lake Entertainment[edit]

Shortly after the Kickstarter campaign of Last Year had completed, Crystal Lake Entertainment (owners of Friday The 13th) sent Kickstarter a DMCA notice for the Last Year Kickstarter page due to fact that Last Year had displayed a movie-poster of the original Friday The 13th from 1980 as a reference to their sources of inspiration. Crystal Lake requested the poster be removed and Last Year complied. The Kickstarter page was then fully restored and returned to normal. No lawsuit occurred, the game was not cancelled, and full production of Last Year continued forward as usual.
