Elements of Rehearsal in the Bleak Midwinter is a 2015 Estonian short documentary film directed by Davide Abbatescianni.
Plot[edit]
The film represents a short compendium regarding the dynamics of theatre art, divided into six different chapters: threshold, space, voice, body, craziness, and crisis. The documentary stars a group of Estonian non-professional actors.
Production[edit]
Fully shot at Tallinn Technical University, the documentary has been supervised by the Estonian documentary directors Kersti Uibo and Riho Västrik.
The title of the film deliberately alludes to Kenneth Branagh's comedy In the Bleak Midwinter and its black and white cinematography, trying to explore the ambiguous nature of the relationship between theatre and life.
The short film has been produced by Tallinn Baltic Film and Media School, in co-operation with T-Teater.
Distribution[edit]
The world premiere took place in Rome on October 29, 2015 in Teatro Ivelise, achieving a nomination for the best documentary at Ivelise Cine Festival. The North American premiere has been scheduled in December 2015.
