Elfsong
Elfsong is a fantasy novel by Elaine Cunningham, set in the world of the Forgotten Realms, and based on the Dungeons & Dragons game.
Plot summary
"Elfsong" tells of bard and Harper agent Danilo Thann, sent by Khelben “Blackstaff” Arunsun to solve a mystery affecting bards throughout the North. A strange spell is tainting the classic numbers, removing memory from culture and thus eradicating history and legacy.
The force behind the crisis is Garnet, a former Harper and bard who blames his old colleagues for his current political problems and so intends to spread corruption via Faerun’s songs themselves. Danilo's search takes him to the streets of Waterdeep and into the farthest spaces of Amn, where old enemies join sparrring with uncomfortable allies, including the elven seer Elaith Craulnober.
With friends like Wyn Ashgrove and the gnome Morgalla, Danilo has to reclaim the enchanted harp Morninglark and end a lingering curse before it becomes interwoven with history itself. The book is a melting pot of political intrigue, mysteries, magical trials and issues of loyalty and legacy.
