Nova Eye Medical (formerly Ellex Medical Lasers) is a glaucoma technology company based in California, with offices in Germany and Australia. In June 2020 Ellex received the all clear from the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission for sale to Lumibird.[1]

History[edit]

in 1985 Ellex Medical Lasers Limited was established as a division of Quentron Optics, an Australian-based scientific laser company.

In 1988, the Company entered in an Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) arrangement with Alcon.

In 1999 the Company entered into an OEM agreement with Coherent Medical (now Lumenis).

In 2001 the Company underwent an IPO and listed on the Australian Stock Exchange.

In 2006 the Company launched a direct ophthalmic sales business, branding its products exclusively under the Ellex brand.

In 2006 the Company acquired Innovative Imaging Inc., a US-based designer and manufacturer of ophthalmic diagnostic ultrasound systems. This marked Ellex's first involvement in an area of ophthalmology outside of laser products.

In 2014 the Company acquired the iTrack™ canaloplasty portfolio from US-based iScience Interventional, Inc. Today, iTrack has grown to become one of the Company's fastest growing products.

In 2019 the Company entered into an agreement to sell the Ellex Laser & UItrasound business to Lumibird (Quantel).

In 2020 the Company successfully divested the Ellex Laser & Ultrasound business to Lumibird, thereby enabling it to focus on becoming the preeminent glaucoma technology company. Ellex Medical Lasers Limited subsequently changed its name to Nova Eye Medical Limited.

In 2020 Nova Eye Medical acquired the Molteno3® Glaucoma Drainage Device business from Molteno Ophthalmic Limited.
