Ellipse is a solo album by the italian pianist Stefano Travaglini recorded in 2016 and released on the Notami Jazz label in 2017.[1]

Reception[edit]

The Jazz Journal review by Brian Morton says "Travaglini’s is a wondrously eclectic talent…" and "Each improvisation seems to emerge organically and with its own logic. An hour of relatively abstract piano might sound like a daunting prospect, but Travaglini’s meditations are sufficiently grounded and immediate to hold the most sceptical of listeners.".[2] The All About Jazz reviews say: "Ellipse is a terrific solo piano recording; adventurous, but never over the top, and often quite beautiful."[3] “Italian pianist Stefano Travaglini‘s Ellipse is a masterwork of improvised music.”, “This melodic ear and Travaglini’s sense of pace makes Ellipse one of the best improvised works of 2017. A beautiful and adventurous recording.” [4] The Jazz Weekly review by George W. Harris says: "Italian pianist Stefano Travaglini delivers an impressive solo performance on this mix of originals and jazz standards. His touch is warm, confident and with a dash of thoughtful introspection as he uses space as a sound on patient pieces such as “The Importance of Fishing” and “Looking Back.”[5]
