Emiliano Fernando Vargas (born April 16, 2004) is an American professional boxer. As an amateur, Vargas was a seven-time national champion.[1] Vargas is the son of two-time super welterweight world champion, Fernando Vargas.[2]

Professional career

Early career

Vargas made his professional on May 14, 2022, in a bout against Mark Salgado. In the opening round, Vargas scored the first knockdown of his career after connecting with a left hook. Salgado recovered from the knockdown, but was immediately hit with a number of unanswered punches. Following this, the referee opted to call an end to the bout in the first round.[3] On October 19, 2022, it was announced that Vargas had signed a promotional deal with Top Rank.[4][5]

Vargas' second outing as a professional was against Julio Martinez on November 12, 2022. In the second round, Vargas landed a left hook to the head of his opponent which sent his opponent to the canvas. Following the knockdown, the referee called an immediate end to the bout.[6] Vargas was taken the full distance for the first time in his professional career when he faced Francisco Duque on February 3, 2023. Vargas secured the win after outboxing his opponent, and winning every round on each of the three scorecards.[7] On April 1, 2023, Vargas faced Edgar Uvalle. In the second round, Vargas landed a combination of punches which knocked his opponent down. Vargas was declared the winner after Uvalle was unable to beat the count.[8][9]

On May 20, 2023, Vargas faced Rafael Jasso on the undercard of Devin Haney vs. Vasiliy Lomachenko. In the second round, Vargas knocked his opponent down after connecting with a left hand to the body. Vargas secured the win after Jasso failed to beat the count.[10] Vargas' next bout was against Jorge Luis Marquez Alvarado on August 12, 2023. During the second round, Vargas scored a knockdown as he controlled the opening exchanges of the fight. Alvarado was able to beat the count, but was knocked down a second time after Vargas connected with a straight left hand. Despite his opponent recovering for a second time, Vargas was able to secure the win after the referee judged that Alvarado was unable to continue.[11] Vargas' seventh bout as professional was against Alejandro Guardado on September 15, 2023. In the third round, Vargas landed a counter left hand which visibly hurt his opponent. Vargas immediately followed this up by connecting with a number of unanswered punches, after which the referee called an end to the bout.[12]

On November 16, 2023, Vargas faced Brandon Mendoza. In the opening round, Vargas connected with a left hook which knocked his opponent down. In the second round, landed a right hand which heavily knocked Mendoza down for a second time. Following this, the referee immediately called an end to the bout.[13][14] Vargas was taken the full distance for just the second time in his professional career when he faced Nelson Hampton on March 29, 2024. Vargas was able to control the bout from the outset, winning all six rounds across the three scorecards.[15]

Vargas faced Angel Varela Urena on May 18, 2024. Vargas won via knockout in the sixth round after connecting with a number of unanswered punches throughout the round.[16] Vargas' next bout was against Jose Zaragoza on June 29, 2024. In the opening round, Vargas landed a straight right hand which knocked his Mexican opponent down. Zaragoza was able to recover from the lockdown, but was immediately put under pressure by Vargas. Halfway through the first round, the referee called an end to the bout in order protect Zaragoza from further damage.[17]

Vargas fought Larry Fryers on September 20, 2024. Vargas started the bout aggressively and in the third round, he connected with a left uppercut which bloodied the nose of his opponent. In the fourth round, Vargas produced a cut under the left eye of Fryers after continuing with his sustained pressure. In the fifth round landed a combination of punches to the body before connecting with a powerful left hand to the head of Fryers. Following this, the referee opted to call an to the bout.[18] On March 29, 2025, Vargas faced Giovannie Gonzalez. In the second round, landed a right uppercut which stunned his opponent. Moments later, Vargas connected with a left hook to the head which put Gonzalez onto the canvas. Despite Gonzalez recovering from the knockdown, the bout was called to an end after the referee deemed that Gonzalez was too unstable to proceed any further in the bout.[19]

On May 4, 2025, Vargas faced Juan Leon for the vacant NABF Junior super lightweight title. During the second round, Vargas scored a knockdown after landing a left-right combination to the head of his opponent. Leon recovered from the knockdown, but was dropped for a second time in the round after Vargas connected with a left uppercut to the head. Following this, the referee waved an end to the bout.[20][21] Vargas' next bout was against Alexander Espinosa on July 27, 2025. In the opening minute of the fight, Vargas landed a counter right right hand which resulted in a knockdown. The referee stopped the contest after 42 seconds, with Espinosa being unable to recover from the knockdown.[22][23]
