Emily C. Heath

Emily C. Heath is a United Church of Christ minister currently serving as Senior Pastor of the Congregational Church in Exeter,[1] New Hampshire, and a writer and public theologian.

Career[edit]

Heath received a B.A. from Emory University (1998), a M.Div. from Columbia Theological Seminary (2001) and a ThM. from Columbia Theological Seminary with a specialization in Reformed theology (2005). Ordained in the Presbyterian Church (USA) in 2001, Heath received ministerial standing in the United Church of Christ in 2010 and currently sits on the national board of that denomination.

Writing[edit]

After deciding not to pursue an academic career, Heath began serving as a parish pastor and writing. Heath's first major work was in the Huffington Post.[2] A common theme was offering a progressive interpretation of religious liberty arguments, especially around LGBTQ equality.[3] Later writing has been featured in the Christian Century,[4] Still Speaking Devotionals,[5] Day1,[6] and more. Heath's first book, "Glorify: Reclaiming the Heart of Progressive Christianity"[7] was published by Pilgrim Press[8] in April 2016.
