After some early attempts at comedic science fiction, her first attempt at novel writing was a science fiction comedy novel written for classmates, before a "scribbled paragraph"[3] became Dragon Tamers, a 60,000 word novella written in six months.

In 2003, Dragon Tamers was published by Aultbea Publishing.[5] Aided by a media caught off-guard by a 13-year-old publishing a book, the novel sold well. Achieving success in the UK and abroad,[6] requiring a second print run of 50,000 copies after the first run of 1,000 sold out.[7] in 2003 a sequel (Dragon Tamers 2: Digital Tempest) was released.

During autumn 2006, the publisher pulled promotion of the sequel, putting interest instead in other child stars.[8]
