Emmanuel Maxwell Bityeki (24 October 1944 – 9 May 2016) was a Cameroonian informatician, writer, politician, and football executive. He was among the first Cameroonian computer engineers, and became known for his studies on the mathematical foundations of football.[1][2]
Early life and education
Bityeki was born on 24 October 1944 in Enongal, Cameroon.[2] He studied computer science abroad, becoming the first Cameroonian engineer in the field of informatics.[citation needed]
Informatics and teaching
Bityeki worked for IBM and later at the Office National des Ports du Cameroun (ONPC), where he served as deputy director general. He also taught and published works aimed at popularizing computer science, including Informatique à la portée de tous.[1]
Political activity
Bityeki was a member of the Union des populations du Cameroun (UPC), a nationalist political party. His political activities led to his imprisonment in Tcholliré during periods of repression.[citation needed]
Football
Bityeki was involved in Cameroonian football as a leader[clarification needed] of the Tonnerre Kalara Club of Yaoundé, and wrote Les fondements mathématiques du football, which applied the principles of kinematics to the sport.[1][3][4]
Death
Emmanuel Bityeki died on 9 May 2016 in Yaoundé at the age of 71, following illness.[1][2]
