Emmanuel Orileye Ekunke is a Nigerian technology entrepreneur, best known as the co-founder and CEO of Demfati,[1] an event technology platform based in Nigeria that provides services for ticketing, voting, and event management.

Early life and education

Ekunke began his tertiary education studying physics at the University of Calabar before switching his focus to computer science. He conceived the initial idea for his company while a student there. Much of his technical expertise was developed through independent study outside of formal academic programs.[2][1]

Business Career

In 2017, Ekunke co-founded Ocoms in Calabar alongside Clement Donatus and his brother Gracious Ekunke.[2] The company was subsequently rebranded as Demfati in 2020.[3]

As CEO, Ekunke has led the company to offer a suite of integrated services for event organizers, including online ticketing, custom event pages, voting systems, digital form tools, and a WhatsApp bot for ticket distribution and support.[1] The development of the platform was, in part, a response to challenges faced by African event organizers, such as low search engine visibility.[2][4]

Recognition and impact

In 2023, Ekunke received a nomination for the FOYA "Under 30" award.[5] Demfati has reportedly managed thousands of tickets and votes for various clients, including educational institutions and event organizers across Nigeria.[4]

Challenges and outlook

The company has publicly discussed challenges related to maintaining search engine visibility, building trust in digital payment systems, and successfully scaling operations across different markets. Future plans for Demfati include expansion into other African countries and further platform development and integration.[6]
