Entempo was a Taiwanese company, which made low-priced MP3 players and accessories.
MP3 players[edit]
Entempo manufactured two MP3 players - the Spirit 20 and the Rubato. Both players feature the patented "Shox technology", which is meant to make the player less prone to damage. It has not been revealed what this protection is, but many users speculate that it is the coloured covering on the outside.[citation needed]
The Spirit was the first sub-$200 20GB MP3 player, costing between US$99 and US$139. It was large in size and had problems at launch, mainly the player crashing. However, this could be solved by downloading the firmware from the Entempo website, but this is no longer possible since the company no longer exists.
The Rubato is a 20GB MP3 player which also has the Shox techonogy. It costs more than the Spirit but has been described as visually appealing.
