The Environmental Information Data Centre (EIDC) is a national data centre managing nationally-important datasets concerned with the terrestrial and freshwater sciences.
The EIDC is part of the Natural Environment Research Council (NERC) and is hosted by the Centre for Ecology & Hydrology
Data holdings[edit]
Datasets and services are accessed from a public data catalogue[1]. The vast majority of data held by the EIDC is available under Open Licence agreements and is freely accessible.
Certification[edit]
The EIDC is certified as a trusted repository by CoreTrustSeal[2] and is a regular member of the World Data System [3].
National role[edit]
The EIDC is one of five data centres that together manage NERC's environmental data, providing a resource for new research investigating key environmental challenges such as climate change. The other data centres are:
- British Oceanographic Data Centre (marine science)
- Centre for Environmental Data Analysis (atmospheric science, earth observation, solar and space physics)
- National Geoscience Data Centre (geoscience)
- Polar Data Centre (polar/cryosphere science)
