Eocortex (also known as OOO Satellit Innovation[2]) — is a company that develops intelligent IP video surveillance software systems, founded in 2008.
Before founding Eocortex, Artyom Razumkov, the graduate of the Perm State University and the Zvorykin National Award winner[3], spent years dealing with video surveillance and security in the Energokomplekt-Perm company. His work in this sphere led him to the idea of the software that would recognize objects and find them in video archives. In 2008, Artyom Razumkov and Alexander Korobkov, his former study partner, founded Eocortex, the project in the sphere of intelligent video surveillance.[4][1]
At its launch stage, the startup began to proactively attract the investors’ funds.[5] The first one million rubles was received by Eocortex in 2008. It came from the Foundation for Assistance to Small Innovative Enterprises in Science and Technology (the Bortnik Foundation). In 2009, Eocortex became the portfolio company of the Perm Venture Fund managed by Allianz ROSNO Asset Management (hereafter AIlianz Investments).[6] Eocortex attracted «several hundreds of thousands of dollars».[7] Later the company received a grant for development from the government of Perm Krai[8] in the amount of approximately 10 MM rubles.[9]
A year and a half after the commencement of its activities, Eocortex started to make first sales, and by the end of the year 2010 the revenue of the company reached 1.5 MM rubles, according to the System of Professional Analysis of Markets and Companies. The company entered the market with two solutions never used before in the IP surveillance: the data indexing and the new video analysis technology, allowing to use up to four times less processing capacity.[4][10]
In 2010, Eocortex became one of the first 16 Skolkovo Innovation Center residents.[11]
In 2012, the Speclab company declared that Eocortex "is copying Speclab’s ideas in a primitive, homemade level and claims them as its own using powerful financial resources of advertising and administrative leverage at the country level.[4]
In 2013, Eocortex entered the foreign market with a sale of its product to one of the Slovakian entrepreneurs.[12] In the domestic trading market, the company is known under the brand Macroscop.[13]
Gradually, the Eocortex software has evolved, adding such features as people counting, queue length measurement, license plate, video smoke detector.[14]and face recognition, and hard hats detection.[15] The quantity of camera models supported by Eocortex is 5630, it works with 100 video server models of 17 world brands, 102 video recorders of 23 manufacturers, and 30 other IP devices of 13 brands. The software supports ONVIF, PSIA, RTSP and HTTP and has an open architecture, allowing to expand the list of devices in accordance with the requests of the individual installers.[16]
In 2019, Eocortex was included into the Ukrainian sanctions list as a company «involved in the hostile activities against Ukraine».[17]The Ukrainian government has not commented on its choice of companies that have been sanctioned.[18]Eocortex representatives stated that sanctions against the company are related to its leading position in the software market. Similarly, the list includes such companies as Yandex, Sberbank, Tupolev and many others.[19]
Despite the sanctions imposed by Ukraine, the governments of other countries actively use Eocortex. In 2019, In Belgium, Eocortex operates 400 Politiezone Arro Ieper (the police department of the district of Ypres) cameras.[20] In Italy, Eocortex software is used by the judiciary police (Polizia Giudiziaria).[21] Within the framework of the «Smart city» project in Nur-Sultan, Kazakhstan there are 3200 IP-cameras under the control of Eocortex software.[22]
