Epicenter (formerly Epicenter Bitcoin[1]) is a podcast about decentralized technologies, blockchain and cryptocurrencies. The show has covered a wide range of technologies including Bitcoin, Ethereum, Zcash, Polkadot, and Cosmos, and touches on technical topics, as well as the economic, legal, social, and regulatory aspects the technology. It was founded by Brian Fabian Crain and Sébastien Couture in December 2013[2][3]. Epicenter is released once per week.

History[edit]

In late 2013, the Let's Talk Bitcoin podcast, hosted by Adam B. Levine, announced it would expand into a network of shows. Levine announced a contest open to anyone interested in launching a podcast on the future Let's Talk Bitcoin Network[4]. Brian Fabian Crain and Sébastien Couture met on a Skype call organized by Levine in December 2013[5][6].

Name change[edit]

In September of 2016, the podcast changed its name from Epicenter Bitcoin to Epicenter to reflect the growing blockchain ecosystem[1][7].

Influence[edit]

In June of 2014, Epicenter released podcast with Mike Hearn, author of Bitcoinj and a former contributor to Bitcoin Core. Commenting on the Bitcoin block size limit controversy, Hearn stated that development of the bitcoin protocol was in a “state of crisis” had ground to a “complete halt”[8][9][10]. His comments sparked debate on the r/Bitcoin subreddit[11][12].

In July of 2017, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission released an investigative report in which it concluded that the tokens issued by The DAO, where securities[13]. The report cites an episode of Epicenter in which Emin Gün Sirer speaks about The DAO[14]
