Chief (Barr.) Erastus Charles Awortu, also known as Erastus Awortu, is a Nigerian politician and legal practitioner. He is member of the Peoples Democratic Party and was overwhelmingly elected across party lines in 2021 as the Executive Chairman of Andoni Local Government Area of Rivers State.[1]

Biography[edit]

Prior to his election, Awortu was the Special Adviser on Niger Delta Development Commission to the former Governor of Rivers State, H.E Nyesom Wike [2] He became popular for the return of peace in Andoni communities that was bedeviled by rival cult gang crisis.[3]

Following his uncommon achievement in returning security and peaceful environment to a war ravaged Andoni communities, he was honoured by people of Unyeada Kingdom and as well coronated with a chieftaincy title: Ogwu-Ibot-Esu 1 of Obolo Land (The great peace maker) by His Eminence, King (Dr.) I. U. Otuo IX JP, Okaan-Ama and Paramount Ruler of Unyeada Kingdom, a descendant of King Otuo Ogbalakon [4] He was also awarded with the Distinguished Service Star of Rivers State (DSSRS) for his meritorious service by the erstwhile Governor of Rivers State.

As part of his strive to place Andoni on World Tourism Map, Erastus Awortu initiated the popular Andoni Unity Carnival to tap the ernomous tourism potential in Andoni.
