Ergun Kocak (born June 19, 1975, Dearborn, Michigan) is an American board-certified plastic surgeon, specializing in reconstructive surgery of the breast, and a published author. He is currently the co-head plastic and micro-vascular surgeon at Midwest Breast & Aesthetic Surgery[1] in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Early life and education[edit]
Kocak was born in Dearborn, Michigan. He took up his Bachelor in Science in 1996 at the University of Michigan. He pursued further studies with two degrees at Ohio State University – Master of Science and Medicine, finished in 2000. He finished his internship in the Ohio State University Medical Center in 2001. In the same hospital, he completed his residencies as a plastic and general surgeon in 2008. After a year, he followed it up with a reconstructive micro-vascular surgeon fellowship in the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center.
Career[edit]
Kocak began his career as a clinical instructor and house staff at Ohio State University from July 2000–June 2008. He worked as a clinical specialist and was a microsurgery fellow at the Division of Plastic Surgery, M.D. Anderson Cancer Center from July 2008–June 2009.
From 2009–2014, he was made an assistant professor and attending surgeon at the Department of Plastic Surgery in OSU. During his stay, he focused on the surgery of the breast, including cosmetic procedures like breast augmentation, breast lift, and DIEP flap. In 2014, along with Dr. Pankaj Tiwari[2], Kocak co-founded the first two branches of Midwest Breast and Aesthetic Surgery in Columbus and Cincinnati, Ohio, where he currently serves as a plastic and micro-vascular surgeon. The surgeons opened two more in the nearby cities of Gahanna and Dublin in 2015.
He has authored over 20 peer-reviewed journal publications, and co-authored the book Cosmetic Surgery After Massive Weight Loss.
