Eric A. Hurley is an American psychologist whose work focuses on implications for the social and educational outlook of African American and other minority children.[1] He is a Professor of Psychology and Africana Studies at Pomona College and the Intercollegiate Department Chair of Africana Studies at the Claremont Colleges in Claremont, California.[2]
Early life
He was born Eric Alexander Hurley.[3] Hurley was raised by a family of educators in a low-income neighborhood in South Miami, Florida. He earned his bachelor's degree from the University of Florida and his doctorate from Howard University.[1] His advisor at Howard University was A. Wade Boykin.
Career
From 2002 to 2005, Hurley taught at Smith College as an Assistant Professor of Psychology. Then, he spent two years researching and publishing at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, and by 2007, Hurley began to work at Pomona College.[1]
He was awarded the Jeffrey S. Tanaka Memorial Dissertation Award for Excellence in Doctoral Research by the Office of Ethnic Minority Affairs at the American Psychological Association.[2]
