Eric Conrad is an American ballet dancer, teacher, ballet coach, and choreographer. He was the first American choreographer at the prestigious Moscow State Academy of Choreography (Bolshoi Ballet Academy) in Moscow, Russia.[citation needed] While in Russia, he choreographed for several professional dancers.[1] He currently coaches ballet dancers, including Misty Copeland, a principal ballet dancer at the American Ballet Theatre.
Career[edit]
Conrad started dancing at the age of 17, and later studied ballet and modern dance at Cabrillo College.[1] From 2001-2002 he studied ballet pedagogy with Professors Vitaly Afanoskov and E Borchenko at the Vaganova Ballet Academy in St. Petersburg, Russia.[1] He also studied as an apprentice pedagogue under Dean Alexander Bondarenko at the Moscow State Academy of Choreography.[1] Conrad graduated from the Institute of Russian Theater in Moscow, Russia. Eric Conrad currently runs the Ballet Conrad Institute, where he teaches his ballet method to students and teachers.
Honors and Other Ventures[edit]
Conrad choreographed, "My Beauty" performed by Ilya Kuznetsov of the Mariinsky Theater and Anastasia Meskova of the Bolshoi Theater. He also co-founded the Russian magazine, "Ballet Art."
