Escape from Camazotz is the sixth episode of Season five. Dustin Henderson attempts to warn Nancy Wheeler and Jonathan Byers that if they make love in the attic, it will explode. Right as he reaches the attic, the attic explodes, launching Dustin’s remains to the ground and knocking Nancy and Jonathan unconscious. Steve Harrington is confused how the attic exploded, but sees how the Underground is right underneath the real world, and how if they destroyed the undergrounds, the real world could collapse. Jim Hopper, Eleven, and Kali Prasad see that the mineshaft is starting to cave in on them. El tries to block the cave in by jumping in front of Kali and Hopper, protecting them. Erica Sinclair and Murray Bauman decide to kidnap Scott Clarke so that they can force him to experience slavery. Mr. Sandman and Holly Wheeler enter the cave so that they can learn about Vecna’s past and thwart his evil schemes. Vecna follows them into the cave but trips and sprains his ankle, making him unable to enter. At the remains of the Wheeler’s house, Joyce Byers finds Will Byers on the ground, unconscious from the plane crash. Mike Wheeler and Robin Buckley are sad that Will is unconscious and want him to wake up. Will enters a coma where he starts hallucinating. He sees Vecna approach him and make him snap. Inside of this hallucination, Vecna tells Will that everything was his fault and that he was very evil. Mr. Sandman tells Holly about Vecna’s past and how when he was a little boy, he entered a cave and saw Zharkov. Zharkov thought that Vecna was evil and told him to leave. Vecna started to leave, but saw a crate and was curious, so he opened it. He found a D20 inside, and after rolling it and rolling a 20, Zharkov is angry at Vecna. Frustrated, Zharkov pierces Vecna’s body with 20 bullets over his head, body, and limbs, blasting his brains out. Annoyed, Vecna kicks a pebble at Zharkov, resulting in his end and cursing him and forcing him to kill when a 20-sided dice was rolled. However, Mr. Sandman hears his least favorite song and starts running away, taking Holly with him. Joyce and Mike find Hopper, El, and Kali at the farm. They talk about why Will might be unconscious, and also Hopper brings up that if Vecna was defeated, El and Kali would be in danger from Nate River and the rest of the police force. El decides that Will is probably inside of the borderlands, and she heads there to find Will by drugging herself. After 3 minutes, El wakes up and says that she didn’t find Will. Joyce is sad that Will is probably dead, and Hopper comforts her and says that every parent will watch their kids die eventually. Mike tells El that she should explore the borderlands more and find a land with three waterfalls. El drugs herself again but this time finds Will stuck in vines and rescues him. The two wake up in the real world again. Nancy and Jonathan wake up to find the attic of Hawkins lab collapsing on them, Nancy blames this on Jonathan and tells him how much he hates Metallica, Jonathan strikes back and tells her he never wanted to go to her college. As the two argue, they notice that the roof is finally crashing on them, Jonathan asks Nancy if she won’t marry him, and Nancy says that of course she wouldn’t marry him. The roof collapses finally and crushes Jonathan, Nancy is glad to be alright and leaves the lab. Robin decides to visit Max Mayfield one last time to bid her goodbyes, and she plays the national anthem of her country. Vickie Dunne arrives and is confused what Robin is doing here. Robin thinks that Vickie was cheating on her and the two argue. Suddenly, a Demodog charges at them and eats Vickie. Robin runs away but realizes that the Demodog was being attracted by the music. She turns it off and the Demodog leaves, she then remembers that Vickie doesn’t like Max. Mr. Sandman realizes that Vecna was going to end both of their lives, so he bids Holly goodbye and tells her to jump off a cliff. Mr. Sandman starts to liquidate Vecna; Holly watches in horror as Vecna. After getting his eyeballs ripped out, stabs Mr. Sandman, Holly decides to finish it as she jumps to her demise to escape Vecna.
