The Eshera Assault was a military engagement that took place during the ongoing Abkhaz-Georgian conflict. On 7 July 1993, Abkhazian forces launched a surprise ambush on Georgian troops in the town of Eshera, resulting in a significant loss of life on the Georgian side.
Background
The conflict between Abkhazia and Georgia had been ongoing for several years, characterized by territorial disputes and ethnic tensions. Eshera, a strategically located town, was one of the flashpoints in the conflict.
The Assault
In a well-coordinated operation, Abkhazian forces took advantage of the element of surprise to launch an assault on Eshera. The Georgian troops stationed in the town were caught off guard, leading to a fierce and intense battle. The Abkhazian forces were able to overrun the Georgian defenses, and heavy fighting ensued on the streets of Eshera.[1][2]
Casualties
The Eshera Assault resulted in a significant loss of life. 18 Georgian soldiers were killed, and an additional 4 were wounded. The Abkhazian forces also suffered casualties, but the exact number remains undisclosed.[1]
