EsinIslam (stylized as ẸsinIslam in African languages and meaning in West Africa's Yoruba as "ReligionOfIslam") is primarily an African Muslim portal and Islamic reference website on the Internet providing services to Muslims and non-Muslims in English and Arabic languages with forum sections for several languages. Its focus is "Authentic Da'wah or Propagation Of Islamic".[3] It was founded by Abdul-Fattah Adelabu in 2007 and currently owned by AWQAF Africa since created 2006.[4]
The services include allowing writers to post articles and other contents to forums and blog. Using fanatical interpretation of Islam, the publishers do not allow facial images on their platform. Users are however invited to post videos to propagate their strict Salafi Islam.[5]
Contents[edit]
Serving as an ultra conservative Islamic portal, the website consists of articles and essays that promote Islamic faith and Muslim social and current affairs. It also has forums in various Muslim World and African languages on various issues, such as local news, politics, and education, as well as other interactive services, such as an "Fatwa Requests" and "Prayer Requests"[6] sections, where visitors can post requests for solutions to problems or social issues.[7] The African forums, especially, Yoruba, Hausa and Swahili sections of the website are less dogmatic or fanatical contents as they seem to have been tailored to appeal to their respective audiences.[8] With news and opinion sections dated back 2008[9], EsinIslam is one of the longest online Muslim publications[10] The website has been criticised and ridiculed for its overuse of Islamic images backgrounds[11]
Staff[edit]
Headquartered and administered in London[12], the United Kingdom, EsinIslam and its Da'wah activities are managed by students and followers of Adelabu at his AWQAF Africa. Although, running some advertisements with donation request from visitors and students who may also be charged for ritual services, the source of funds for the African Muslim portal is not all clear. However, the website claims his founder, Adelabu and his family are the main providers of the operating costs.[13]
