EssentiallySports is a digital sports media organization [1] focused on publishing news and content on Boxing, Esports, Formula 1, Golf, Mixed Martial Arts, NASCAR, NBA, NFL, Tennis, and WWE. Launched in 2014, EssentiallySports is owned by Full Spectrum Services LLP. [2]
History[edit]
EssentiallySports was co-founded by Harit Pathak, Jaskirat Arora, and Suryansh Tibarewal[3][4] in 2014 as a bootstrapped startup.[5] Started as a platform for college sports enthusiasts, EssentiallySports was a forum for sports fans to voice their opinions on various sporting events around the world. In 2017, the co-founders began to establish and grow the company from a voluntary contribution-based website to a professional organization.[6] EssentiallySports is a new age, fully remote sports media house.[7] The company generates revenue through programmatic advertising.[8]
Authors and content[edit]
With 150+ team members, EssentiallySports publishes 200 articles every day.[9] In 2022, EssentiallySports appointed ex NDTV Convergence CEO as an advisor to the company.[10]
Tennis coverage[edit]
Tennis was one of the earliest sports covered by EssentiallySports with the first article getting published in 2014.[11] The website covers all popular tennis events under Grand Slam (tennis), ATP Tour Masters 1000, ATP Tour 500, ATP Tour 250, WTA 1000 tournaments, WTA 500 tournaments, WTA 250 tournaments, WTA Finals and ATP Finals. In 2020, EssentiallySports launched a tennis podcast series ‘Quarentennis - Bridging the Broken Strings’ which features exclusive interviews with top names in tennis.[12] Some of the notable names who have been featured in the podcast include Patrick Mouratoglou, Rick Macci, Hubert Hurkacz, Holger Rune, Alize Cornet and Noah Rubin (tennis).
Technology[edit]
EssentiallySports uses an in-house technology stack, which is a headless CMS built on top of WordPress and Next.js. EssentiallySports moved to this stack in April 2022 by partnering with Vercel.[13] The technology stack allows EssentiallySports to make their content accessible at scale for the readers, keeping in mind the web performance standard of the industry.
Reach[edit]
The website has a user base of 150+ countries and caters to 30M+ readers monthly.[14]
