Eugene Mugubi Abwao, (born 03 October 1997) popularly known by his stage name linkyonwaves[1] and often referred to as waveslikesummer, is a Kenyan rapper, singer, songwriter, director, producer and deejay. He released his debut album Sauce Her Down[2] alongside PapizZing in 2022 under their own record label Sauceboiz Music.[3]

Early life[edit]
linkyonwaves was born at Coast General Teaching & Referral Hospital in Mombasa on October 3, 1997 and raised was in Umoja, a neighborhood in Nairobi, Kenya. His mother gave him the name Eugene a Greek word meaning “wellborn” and the name Abwao was given to pay homage to his great grandfather.[4] linkyonwaves has been raised as a Christian and is very religious. He has an elder brother James Atetwe and a sister Linda Mashaka who is the eldest.
linkyonwaves attended Kaaga Boys High School in form 1 and was later transferred to Butula Boys High School in form 2 where he became a multipotentialite. He began Djing and producing hip hop music under the moniker DJ linkyvazazee and later as DJ linky.sauceboi.[5]
Career[edit]
linkyonwaves started his musical career while still in high school. He began writing songs with Samuel "PapizZing" Kadima in 2013 in Butula Boys High School. In 2017 he ventured into photography and videography respectively. After forming Sauceboiz in 2018 he and PapizZing released their first single Inama in August 2019 as a YouTube only release, the single went on to give him some notoriety. In February 2022 their debut album Sauce Her Down released on all streaming platforms and was featured on all of Spotify's Kenyan playlists.
In March 2022, he and PapizZing released their first EP Sauce and Chill which featured their labelmates Mistari Teller, Ke9 and Kid Tokyo. He was among the opening artists who performed at 5 elements of hip hop on 15 October 2022 which was hosted by Ukoo flani's Sharama at Kenya National Theatre.[6]
