The European Institute for Advanced Behavioural Management (EIABM),[1] until 2014 MBA School of Saarland University,[2] is an institute of Saarland University that offers the postgraduate programme "European Management" leading to a Master of Business Administration (MBA). The education focuses on postgraduate advancement of managers and enables them to understand global economic systems and shape their companies accordingly. Emphasis is placed on Management Basics, European Basics, Financial Management, Marketing and Management, Operations Management and Behavioural Management.[3]

History[edit]

Saarland University was proclaimed a "European University" in 1950 by rector Joseph- François Angelloz and the EIABM was founded in the following year 1951. The EIABM is internationally oriented and interdisciplinary across four departments: cultural, political, legal and economic. Over the past decades, two independent sections have emerged:

  • Section of Law, postgraduate course European Integration (LLM), in 1980 (Europa-Institut Saarbrücken).
  • Section Economics, postgraduate programme "European Management" (MBA), in 1990 (EIABM).[4]

Both sections are still run today in the spirit of the European founding idea of 1951. In 2009, the Economics Section was renamed MBA School, Saarland University. Since 2014, the institute now bears both: the name European Institute for Advanced Behavioural Management (EIABM) and the name Europa-Institut, Sektion Wirtschaftswissenschaft.

The postgraduate MBA programme "European Management" offered at the EIABM, which is part of the Faculty of Empirical Human Sciences and Economics at Saarland University, was FIBAA-accredited in 2009. It has been system-accredited by the Accreditation Council since 2015. It was also awarded the UdS Quality Passport in 2016 and 2020.[5]

The directors of the institute are Bastian Popp (holder of the Chair of Business Administration, in particular Trade Management at Saarland University) and Andrea Gröppel-Klein [6] (holder of the Chair of Marketing – Institute of Consumer and Behavioural Research at Saarland University).[7] Julia Senni is the programme manager.[8]

Range of studies[edit]

The Master of Business Administration in "European Management" can be completed as a full-time one-year or as a part-time (up to four years) postgraduate programme in economics. The programme is held in English language and includes 15 classes. In addition to the lectures, further examination components, such as group work, case studies, presentations and oral examinations, must be completed. The programme ends in each case with the Master's thesis, a written final paper. After successful completion of the programme, the title Master of Business Administration is awarded.

Since October 2009, guest students have also had the opportunity to attend courses on current management topics at the EIABM of Saarland University. Courses can be selected from the current course programme as individual courses according to their own needs and interests.

Alumni groups[edit]

The alumni association AEDES was founded by active and former students of the EIABM. The aim of the Alumni Association was to enable close contact with the Business School as well as with each other. Since the dissolution of AEDES, graduates of the MBA programme European Management organize "homecomings" or "round tables" via social networks such as LinkedIn or Xing to exchange experiences.
