The European Journal for Philosophy of Religion (EJPR) was a quarterly, peer-reviewed academic journal of philosophy of religion.[1] As a publisher-independent journal, edited under the academic auspices of Central European Society for Philosophy of Religion, EJPR was not primarily profit-oriented but strived to encourage high-quality discussions in philosophy of religion among scholars representing different philosophical and theological schools of thought within this field of research. Originally founded in 2009 by the Oxford-educated Polish philosopher Janusz Salamon, with the support of Richard Swinburne (Oxford University) as the Chair of the Advisory Board, to promote particularly in Continental Europe scholarly discussions in the analytic philosophy of religion, it was developed into an internationally highly respected journal, indexed in Scopus and Web of Science. Since 2017, the journal has been edited at the University of Innsbruck, Austria, by Georg Gasser (now at Augsburg University, Germany), with T. Ryan Byerly (University of Sheffield) as Reviews Editor. In 2023, to ensure the journal's continued existence, EJPR has been transferred to a publisher in Asia. This led to some drastic changes: The focus on the philosophy of religion has no longer been maintained and an expensive pay-to-publish scheme has been introduced. Therefore, it can no longer be considered to be a non-profit-oriented journal devoted to systematic questions in the philosophy of religion. In reaction to these developments, the Nordic Society for Philosophy of Religion, an international academic association which brings together researchers in philosophy, theology, sociology and religious studies from Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, Sweden, and the Baltic countries, has initiated establishment of AGATHEOS: European Journal for Philosophy of Religion, an open-acess journal hosted by the Royal Library of Sweden, that will be continuing the EJPR's mission to promote a scholarly debate in philosophy of religion in Continental Europe. AGATHEOS: European Journal for Philosophy of Religion will be edited under the academic auspices of the Nordic Society for Philosophy of Religion, with Francis Jonbäck (University of Gävle, Sweden) as the chief Editor, and Janusz Salamon, the founder of the original European Journal for Philosophy of Religion, as the Chair of the Editorial Committee.
