Ewa Wojkowska
Ewa Wojkowska, a Polish-Australian social entrepreneur, is co-founder & Chief operating officer of Kopernik,[1] a non-profit organization based in Indonesia that connects simple technology with people in remote communities.[2]
Early life[edit]
Wojkowska was born in Poland and migrated to Australia in 1984, after her father, an activist and a leader in the Solidarity (Polish trade union) resistance movement, was threatened. Her family sought and received asylum in Canberra, Australia.[3][4]
Career[edit]
Wojkowska initially joined the United Nations in 2000 as a United Nations Volunteer [5] and worked in the remote enclave of Oecusse, East Timor as a field officer.
Wojkowska managed the Human Rights and Justice programme for the United Nations Development Programme in Indonesia.[6] In this role she designed and implemented programs to improve Indonesians’ access to justice and legal empowerment.[7][8][9]
Wojkowska is the co-founder and COO of Kopernik, a non-profit organization based in Indonesia that connects simple technology with remote communities. Wojkowska and Toshihiro (Toshi) Nakamura launched Kopernik in 2010.[10][11][12]
Wojkowska has been a speaker at conferences including TEDxWarsaw (2011),[13] TEDxJakarta (2011),[14] Emerge Conference at Oxford University (2013),[15] and Entrepreneurial Women in Leadership (2014).[16]
