Explanation facility
An explanation facility is the part of an expert system that "explains the reasoning of the system to the user."[1] It "allows the user to ask why it asked some question, and how it reached some conclusion."
Example[edit]
Suppose there is an expert system that can suggest the most appropriate wine to a user based on the ingredients of the meal. The expert system will return an answer suggesting the best wine for the meal. The explanation facility can be used to show the rules that the expert system used to come to the conclusion that that is the best wine.
