Föllakzoid is a Chilean band formed on July 7, 2007[1]. The group is composed of founding members Domingæ Garcia Huidobro (guitar), Juan Pablo Rodríguez (bass) and Diego Lorca (Drums), with the participation by Gonzalo Laguna and Francisco Zenteno on the first LP, and Ives Sepúlveda and Alfredo Thiermann on LP II.
The band's music is a mix of psychedelic rock, Krautrock and space rock, featuring monochord rhythms and basic elements of repetition influenced by bands like Pink Floyd, Can and Neu!.
History[edit]
The band debuted live in 2007 at Club Mist, where bands like La Hell Gang, The Holydrug Couple, Cindy Sisters also played.[2]
Their self-titled debut album was issued in 2009 on Chilean label BYM records.[3] This release attracted the interest of the American independent label Scared Bones, which released a 12-inch vinyl EP with two songs by the band in 2011.[4]
During this period, they toured the United States playing in different clubs and at the prestigious SXSW festival in Austin, Texas.[5] Later they began a tour of Europe, sharing the bill with Mogwai and Loop, at the All Tomorrow’s Parties festival. In 2012, the band played the Lollapalooza Chile festival.
The band's second album, called II, was released in January 2013 and was recorded in a single take, in a single day, in the analog studio of the independent label BYM Records.[6] The album had good critical reception in media such as The New York Times, The Guardian and the Chicago Tribune, among many others.
The music site Pitchfork noted: "Their debut leaned toward desert rock, but the interplanetarily minded II is a bold shift in perspective from their earthbound origins, an all-out swing into a very different sound that follows its own alien logic."[7]
They were nominated for Best Rock Artist at the 2nd edition of the Chilean Pulsar Awards for music in 2016.[8]
In March 2018, they made their first Asian tour, visiting China, Japan and Hong Kong. Later, they came to Australia with dates in Sydney, Melbourne, Katoomba and Hobart.[9]
On April 11, 2018, they opened for Radiohead, together with Junun and Flying Lotus, at the SUE festival held at the National Stadium of Chile.[10]
