Futebol Clube do Porto[1] is a professional boxing team based in Porto, Portugal. It is the representative of the boxing section of Futebol Clube do Porto, a sports club best known for its football team. They compete in the Portuguese National Championship, on various boxing categories, these being seniors, juniors, cadets, and child boxing. It is one of the oldest and most titled boxing teams in Portugal, having won 10 national seniors championships, among other titles in other categories.[2]
Foundation
The section started in 1926 and was marked by directors such as Jorge Nuno Pinto da Costa (from February 1967 to August 1968), Alfredo Freijó, Dr. Eduardo Pinto da Costa, Luís Saavedra, Reinaldo Teles, Júlio Marques, and José Carlos Alves, that contributed to the growing and success of this section in the club. Some former notable athletes are Alcino Palmeira[3] (the most titled boxer in the section history with eleven national titles), Ventura Júnior (the first boxer to officially represent the team), Alberto Ferreira, José Clemente Rocha, Serafim Bento, Augusto Palmeira, Mário Lino, Carlos Gonçalves, among others.[4]
