Richard Ortiz (born February 1, 1992), professionally known as F1lthy, is an American record producer. Born and raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania[1], Ortiz began producing music in 2012 alongside his younger brother Oogie Mane. F1lthy and Oogie Mane later formed the producer collective Working on Dying, which reached mainstream success with collaborations with various artists such as Lil Uzi Vert[2], Playboi Carti[3], Juice Wrld[4], and Future[4].

Early Life

In 2012, F1lthy began his production career using Fruity Loops in high school[5]. Inspired by the Miami underground scene, including artists such as SpaceGhostPurrp and the rap group Metro Zu, F1lthy developed his own production style[5][4]. He introduced his beats to his younger brother Oogie Mane[4] and began teaching music production to close friends, including Brandon Finessin', who later joined F1lthy's producer collective "Working on Dying"[4].

Career

Playboi Carti - "Whole Lotta Red" (2020)

F1lthy produced many songs on Playboi Carti's 2020 album Whole Lotta Red. From the album opener "Rockstar Made" to tracks such as “Stop Breathing” and “On That Time,” F1lthy's production was a focal point in the album[3]. Rolling Stone reviewer Danny Schwartz noted that "Whole Lotta Red notably marks a breakthrough for Working on Dying producer F1lthy, whose heavy distortion on standouts like “Stop Breathing” and “On That Time” supplies much of the album's adrenal punk energy. His beats set the tone for the first 12 songs, a turbulent sequence that pretty much exists for the singular purpose of moshing"[3].

Lucki/F1lthy - "WAKE UP LUCKI" (2021)

WAKE UP LUCKI is a collaborative tape between F1lthy and the rapper Lucki. Characterized by distorted bass and heavy synths[6], the "Working on Dying" producer worked on every track. The album's name is a play on F1lthy's producer tag "Wake Up F1lthy"[1].
