FC South West Sydney is an indoor association football (soccer) club primarily based in the suburb of Canterbury, New South Wales. The team competes in the Sportsworld Peakhurst Men's Division 2, the second tier of indoor soccer in the Southern Districts of Sydney.

Nicknamed "The South Westies", the club represents the South West region of Sydney, including the suburbs of Belmore, Condell Park, Canterbury and some parts of the Inner West Council. The club has a strong affiliation with the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs in the NRL, and Catania FC of the Serie C. [1]

The club was formed in 2023 and quickly joined the newly reformed Sportsworld Peakhurst Men's League, being assigned Division 2 for the 2023-24 season. The club's board has an ambition to officially form the side as a member of the Football Canterbury district in the foreseeable future. [2]

History[edit]

Formation[edit]

Adrian Briganti, the club's founder, coach, chairman, and captain, met down with his brother-in-law John Cubito and cousin Christian Signorelli in August 2023 to discuss his plans to form an indoor football team. The three men were in the Canterbury Hotel for their regular weekly pub visit. The vision Adrian had was accepted by both of the men. [3] As a result, Adrian reached out to his friends Dimitri Vasilaras, Dean Zouganelis, and Kosta Kondonis as well as his second brother-in-law Anthony Dimopoulos and cousin-in-law Michael Vakis to share his enthusiasm and vision. The foundation players were then signed, and his team was formed. [4]

Admission to the Peakhurst League (2023-24)[edit]

Following the club's creation and inauguration, FC SWS was formally admitted to join the Peakhurst set-up, the premier competition in the Georges River, Canterbury-Bankstown and Inner West areas. Subsequently, the league structure was reorganised and re-founded in three new divisions. FC SWS was accepted to join Division 2, the second tier. [5]

Grounds[edit]

Peakhurst Inn Arena[edit]

The Peakhurst Sports Court (known as the Peakhurst Inn Arena due to sponsorship reasons) has been the clubs primary ground since its inception. The club trains at Henley Park in Enfield, and Strathfield Park in Strathfield.

Rivals[edit]

In the club's young history, few rivalries have been formed. However, a small derby with fellow Western Sydney side The Kompany FC has began, following their debut match against each other.
