The FIA Formula 3 International Championship, or FIA F3 for short, is an upcoming single seater motor racing series organized by FIA, set to debut in 2019. It will be a result of a merger between two existing International and European third-tier single-seater formula racing series, the GP3 Series and FIA European Formula 3 Championship as it was announced the merger prospect on 22 September 2017.[1] This merger of GP3 Series and FIA Formula 3 European Championship effectively ended a nine-year split and reunited Formula Three category. The creation of FIA Formula 3 International Championship is a prospect of the consolidation of final phase of the FIA Global Pathway, a tiered system of support categories designed to assist drivers' career paths from karting to Formula One. The merged FIA Formula 3 International Championship creating a pathway from regional Formula 4 series to the more competitive Formula 2 championships. This three tier system will mirror the structure used by Grand Prix motorcycle racing with its MotoGP, Moto2 and Moto3 categories.
The cars[edit]
The FIA Formula 3 International Championship car is a standardised car used by all of the competing teams. Dallara will continue supplying chassis for all FIA Formula 3 International Championship cars but will incorporating Halo cockpit protection device from 2019 onwards.[2] The engines of all FIA Formula 3 International Championship will produce 350 bhp power output but the engine supplier are yet to be announced.[3]
