Faculty of Chemistry is one of the faculties of Lodz University of Technology educating in the field of chemical science and technology. It has existed since the beginning of Lodz University of Technology, i.e. since June 1945.
History[edit]
Three professors of the Faculty of Chemistry are mentioned as founders: Osman Achmatowicz, Alicja Dorabialska and Tadeusz Wojno. They took part in the faculty organizational session on the 26th of June 1945 during which professor Wojno was appointed the dean and professor Achmatowicz an associate dean. In the first academic year 1945/46 the following departments were created:
- Department of Mathematics and Division of General Mathematics – the first organizer and supervisor was Edward Otto.
- Department of Physics – founded by Władysław Kapuściński
- Department of Inorganic Chemistry – supervised by Edward Józefowicz
- Department of Physical Chemistry – supervised by Alicja Dorabialska
- Department of Chemical Theory of Machines – supervised by Czesław Mikulski
- Department of General Chemistry – founded by Bogumił Wilkoszewski
- Department of Organic Chemistry – organized by Osman Achmatowicz
- Department of Fiber Technologies and Dying – created by Edmund Trepka
- Department of India Rubber and Plastics Technologies – supervised by Stanisław Kiełbasiński
In the following years seven more departments and one institute were founded. These included:
- Department of Inorganic Technology (1946), which was incorporated into a newly created Institute of General Chemistry in 1970
- Department of Organic Technology (1948)
- Department of Chemical Technology of Organic Dyes (1949)
- Department of Cellulose and Paper Technology (1952)
- Department of Tanning Technology (1958)
- Department of Radiation Chemistry (1962), which was transformed into the Institute of Applied Radiation Chemistry in 1966
- Department of Organic Synthesis (1965)
