About[edit]

The Fairfield Programming Association (FPA) is an international non-profit focused on delivering computer science education to underserved youth. The organization focuses its operations in Bridgeport, CT, teaching the area's inner-city youth the importance of computer literacy. The FPA is a high-schooler-led initiative with many partner schools in Fairfield County.[1]

History[edit]

The FPA was founded in 2020 when its co-founders Neil Chaudhari and William McGonagle[2] realized that computer science education was faltering due to the pandemic. The initiative they started began as a computer science competition[3], trying to rally support for the area's programming community while trying to educate others on the importance of CS. Chaudhari and McGonagle along with volunteers from their school then began to teach programming to underserved children in their community. They named the initiative the Fairfield Programming Association and incorporated it as a 501(c)(3). Now, the FPA consists of volunteers from the USA, Canada, South Africa, and India, and teaches computer science in the USA and India.[4]
