Fairlop Waters Country Park
Fairlop Waters is the largest park and leisure facility in Redbridge. The park is situated south of Hainault and east of Fullwell Cross on the site of a former RAF airfield. The park can be accessed from Fairlop and Barkingside underground stations.
The site was purchased by Ilford council in 1953 after plans to convert the airfield into a commercial airport after World War II failed.[1]
The current facilities includes the largest boulder park in the UK, golf course and three lakes.[2]
In November 2013, a commemorative sculpture was unveiled by the Mayor of Redbridge to commemorate those who served at Fairlop and Hainault airfields during the First and Second World Wars.[3]
