Fanatec
Fanatec is a brand name of the German manufacturer Endor AG which produces sim racing hardware such as force-feedback steering wheels (including direct-drive wheels), pedals, shifters and sim racing cockpits. Their products are developed in Germany and produced in China.[1]
History[edit]
Endor was founded in 1997,[2] and went public in 2006.[3]
In 2005, Xbox 360 was launched, and the Fanatec CSR wireless wheel[4] was included as the only non-Microsoft aftermarket wheel which could be connected to the game console wirelessly.
In 2006,[5] Fanatec signed a 5-year contract with Porsche for Fanatec to produce official Porsche sim racing wheels.[6]
In 2009, Forza Motorsport 3 was released, and the Porsche 911 Turbo S wheel made by Fanatec was the only supported two force feedback racing wheel alongside Microsoft's own Wireless Racing Wheel.[7]
According to a 2015 article in the Sim Racer Magazine, Fanatec had then became a well-established competitor to sim racing hardware brands such as Logitech, Saitek and Thrustmaster, although Fanatec has been "leaning towards higher specifications and quality".[8]
In 2021, after Fanatec partnered with Polyphony Digital and Sony to produce a line of hardware Gran Turismo (series), Gran Turismo series producer Kazunori Yamauchi stated that Fanatec had "been on the leading edge of simulation hardware technology for many years".[9]
Sponsorships[edit]
In 2020, Fanatec became the official partner for the World Rally Championship's eSports activities.[10]
In 2021, Fanatec entered a title sponsorship for the GT2 European Series (non-sim) racing series,[11] and sponsors events such as the:
- 2021 GT World Challenge America
- 2021 GT World Challenge Australia
- 2021 GT World Challenge Asia
- 2021 GT World Challenge Europe
- 2021 GT World Challenge Europe Endurance Cup
- 2021 GT World Challenge Europe Sprint Cup
