Background and leak[edit]

The third demo of the song was recorded on September 3, 2021, according to its file.[citation needed] It was written by the singer alongside with the producers of the song Max Martin and Savan Kotecha.[citation needed] Grande has also stated that the song was originally recorded for a comedy sketch with a Girl Group, but was not used or officially released. Grande, when addressing the leak, expressed frustration, stating that she had intended to revisit the song and possibly reuse the hook.[4]

On June 2023, snippets of the songs began to leak alongside other songs that Grande had recorded around the same time.[citation needed] The full song later leaked on June 25, 2023, alongside its studio sessions.[citation needed] A month later after the song’s leak, it began to see a big resurgence of popularity on TikTok. Several videos uploaded on the app using the song earned over 100,000 likes and 1 millopm views each. It was also featured in over 3,000 videos in the last 24 hours on July 31, 2023.[5]

Streaming and removal[edit]

On August 19, 2023, a fan illegally uploaded the song on streaming services. On September 4, 2023, the song was receiving over 300,000 streams on Spotify in the Philippines chart. The song has also began to be played illegally on radio stations around the world.[1][6][7]

The track was taken down from streaming services a day after. The fan who had uploaded the song to streaming services had previously been fined $10,000 due to the actions. According to Unilad, the track had earned over 24 million streams before being taken down.[8][9][10]
