Fantasy Boys (Hangul소년 판타지; RRSonyeon Pantaji; lit. Boy Fantasy) is an upcoming South Korean reality competition show created by MBC. It was intended to form a 12 member boy group with the potential to chart on Billboard.[1] The contestants were put into age groups that specialize in vocals, rapping, and performance. A joint production between MBC and Phunky Studio (the company founded by Han Dong-chul of Produce 101), the show will premiere on March 23, 2023.

Concept[edit]

On June 8, 2022, production company Funky Studio officially announced that the idol audition show would be returning with a male version early next year. "PD [producing director] Han Dong Chul has begun preparing to produce a male version for Season 2," stated the agency. "It is currently scheduled to air in February or March of next year. Just like Season 1, it will be an audition for the birth of a talented K-pop group."

On June 27, 2022, the producers of the upcoming male version of MBC’s audition show “My Teenage Girls” (2021-22) will meet with 53 K-pop agencies in preparation for the show, according to the show’s production company Funky Studio.[2]

On November 14, 2022, trainees gathered for the first day of filming for today's show at a studio in Tanhyundong, Ilsan, Gyeonggi-do. It was used as a teaser video for the show and so on.[3]

On November 18, 2022, the first video teaser was released. Applications for the show were open from November 18 to December 16, 2022, for any male individual born in 2010 or earlier.[4]

Promotion and broadcast[edit]

The show's premiere date of March 23, 2023, was confirmed through a teaser photo released on February 17, 2023.[5]

The contestant profiles for all 55 contestants were released.

On October 20, 2021, 2PM's Wooyoung, (G)I-dle's Soyeon, Winner's Seungyoon and former B1A4 member Jinyoung joined the cast of the show as mentors (also known as "homeroom teachers").[6]
