Faruk Özgüneş during the Christmas parade of VTM Genk 2008

Faruk Özgüneş (Dutch pronunciation : Faroek Özgünes) (born Ankara, 28 November 1963) Turkish-Flemish TV presenter and journalist on TV channel VTM.[1][2][3]

Biography[edit]

Özgünes started working as a reporter at VTM Nieuws in 1991, after his education in journalism and translator-interpreter. For a long time he combined this with the newscaster position (1991–2000, 2004–2011, 2020–present), especially as a late-night news presenter and also one of the hosts of the newsletter info 2 on the short-lived Channel 2.

Over the years, he was particularly specialized in journalism justice. He compiled an investigative program in 2008, Telefacts Crime, later renamed Faroek and continues to present the program.[4]

Özgünes wrote a book about the Parachute murder, a assassination case in Belgium in 2010. He wrote a book about the Fortress Murder, a sensational case of the same kind in 2017. In 2018, he appeared on the TV show Boxing Stars.[5]

In February 2020, Özgünes was questioned for hours by Ivory Coast police while reporting news around a prison in Abidjan. After mediation by the Belgian Federal Civil Service Foreign Affairs, he and his colleagues were released.[6][7]

Private life[edit]

Özgünes is married and has two children.[8]
