Fazhengnian
Fazhengnian (simplified Chinese: 发正念; traditional Chinese: 發正念; pinyin: Fā Zhèng Niàn; literally "sending forth righteous thoughts") is a meditation exercise practiced in Falun Gong (or Falun Dafa). The practice of sending forth righteous thoughts was initiated by Falun Gong's founder, Mr. Li Hongzhi, on May 19, 2001,[1] a few years after the start of the persecution of Falun Gong by authorities of the People's Republic of China (PRC). Sending forth righteous thoughts is one of the three requirements for Falun Dafa practitioners during this period of time called "Fa-rectification," along with studying the Fa, and clarifying the truth.[2]
In accordance with Mr. Li Hongzhi's teachings, Minghui.org, with the aim of providing essential guidelines for sending forth righteous thoughts, advises that sending forth righteous thoughts is "very important, and every Fa-rectification period Dafa disciple must do well in this regard."[3] Additional instructions published on Minghui.org indicate that, "when sending forth righteous thoughts, your mind must be focused, pure, and stable."[3] The ritual is performed by sitting in the full lotus (cross-legged) position. Two hand positions are employed: the first hand position involves holding the right palm erect in front of the chest, while the second consists of holding the hands in the lotus hand position.[4] The hand positions are accompanied by the recitation of two formulas, which may be translated as: (1) “The Fa rectifies the Cosmos, the Evil is completely eliminated"; and (2) "The Fa rectifies Heaven and Earth, immediate retribution in this lifetime."[4] According to Minghui.org, "whether or not one's primary language is Chinese," practitioners "should use accurate Mandarin Chinese pronunciations as much as possible when reciting the verses."[3]
Falun Dafa practitioners worldwide, according to minghui, simultaneously send forth righteous thoughts four times daily.[5]
