History[edit]

Federal science and Technical College, Uromi was established in 1999. The school was initiated and firstly established by an Igbo man known as Mr. Ibebunjo who lived in Uromi before the Civil war. He was a philanthropist who established a Skill Acquisition and Trade Centre school in 1963 which he eventually handed over to his church (Baptist church), before leaving Uromi for his home town at the outbreak of the Nigeria Civil War. The school was taken over by the then Bendel State Government from the Voluntary Agency and it was renamed "Uromi Technical College". In 1999, the College was adopted by the Federal Government and it became one of the Federal Unity College. It inherited the facilities of the then Uromi Technical College. The college took off date was on a Sunday, 5th November, 2000.

Purpose[edit]

The main reason for setting up the College is to impact knowledge into students, help them develop skills and character, so as to make them efficient, self reliant and useful citizens who can comfortably fit into the advanced technology of today's world at the end of their studies.

Mission and Vision Statement[edit]

Mission FSTC, Uromi will in addition to her expertise in training skilled craftsmen also nurture young Scientists that will be effective in promoting self reliance, wealth creation, poverty reduction and a recognition of the dignity of labour in furtherance of the social-economic development of Nigeria. Vision To be the fastest growing Skills acquisition and Science Education College, and also have the most effective production unit among the comity of Science and Technical Colleges in Nigeria by using Modern Technology and Highly Skilled Motivated Teachers to ultimately satisfy all stakeholders. The College kicked-off with nine Trades:

  1. Motor Vehicle Mechanic Works (MVM)
  2. Electrical Installation and Maintenance (EIM)
  3. Radio and Television (Electronics) (RTV)
  4. Bricklaying, Block laying and Concreting (BBC)
  5. Furniture Making (FM)
  6. Catering Craft Practice (CCP)
  7. Book-keeping (BKK)
  8. Secretarial Studies (SS)
  9. Computer Craft Studies (CCS) was included in 2009/2010 academic session while Welding and Fabrication (WF) Trade, took off in 2010/2011 session

The College has highly contributed to the delivery of sound science and technical education to the students. Presently there are additional Science component subjects in ten (10) trade areas.

The College which is located in Uromi, Esan North East Local Government Area of Edo State, South-South geopolitical zone of Nigeria, occupies a total land mass of ninety-two (92) acres with seventy-two (72) acres in use twenty (20) acres free for future development. [2]
