Felix Milton

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Felix Milton (born in London in 1982) is a British music producer and mix sound engineer from London. From an early age he had a passion for technology and music which continued to grow throughout his childhood and adolescence.

Career[edit]

1999-2007[edit]

In 1999, at the age of 17, Felix signed a recording contract with Sony 2 as the composer for an up-and-coming band, Urban Dub Collective, who subsequently went on to record and release one album and three singles, reaching the top 10 in the official UK charts.

With Felix’s help, Urban Dub Collective went on to be one of the supporting acts for the Justin Timberlake Justified Tour – performing 61 shows over the course of 13 months and across 13 countries. Sadly, following the Sony/BMG merger in late 2004, Urban Dub Collective found that their label was not being continued with the new Sony company set up and with no label backing, the band unfortunately split up.

By this point, Felix, who was now a young father, found work with help from a close friend and mentor, Sony’s Director of Urban Promotion, Steve Ripley, in Sony Music Studios, London (The Hit Factory), where the band had recorded and rehearsed material for several years prior.

2008-2014[edit]

Felix continued to work as a freelance engineer and producer with Sony Music Studios London and continued to work over the subsequent sale of the studio when it became Arts Media/Whitfield Street Studios. Felix remained here until the studio's final closure in 2008.

During his time with Sony Music Studios London and then Arts Media/Whitfield Street Studios, Felix gained notoriety within the industry, mixing material and winning awards for a range of UK and American releases, such as, Van Morrison, Missy Elliot, Aaliyah, Boys II Men, Busta Rhymes, 50 Cent, Grammy Nominated Gorillaz, Grammy Winning Amy Winehouse, Noel Gallagher, Salaam Remi, John Legend, The Roots and Mark Ronson.

Following the closure of Whitfield Street Studios, Felix was asked to help with the full design of a recording studio and to work exclusively with Amy Winehouse in St Lucia for one of her projects. This project would last until spring 2009, when she began touring again and Felix subsequently returned to London, UK.

In late 2008, Felix was approached by the artist, and now friend, Paolo Nutini, to start working on mixing his second album and singles for a summer 2009 deadline, as well as assisting with the American and UK promotional tours, which commenced on his return to the UK in spring 2009 and continued until 2010.

Over the next three years, Felix continued to work freelance for artists such as Tinie Tempah, Mac Miller, Jamie XX/The XX, Kanye West and Alicia Keys.

In the summer of 2013, Felix began working with Paolo Nutini again, during the recording of his third album. With the release of this album in spring of 2014, Felix accompanied Paolo on an 18-month world tour across North America, Europe, South Africa, Australia, and New Zealand.

2015-Present[edit]

In late 2015, Felix was approached by representatives for the artist Childish Gambino (Donald Glover), to work on an album project inspired by traditional analogue recording styles, like the ones used with Amy Winehouse and Paolo Nutini. From here, Felix spent the following 13 months flying back and forth between London and America. With the development work taking place in both continents, the album ‘Awaken, My Love’ was released in 2018 and was certified platinum by the RIAA and won jointly his second Grammy Award.

The following 15* date tour took place throughout the summer and autumn of 2018, throughout this period, Felix continued to spend a lot of his time working in America, with the artist, Mac Miller, developing material which would lead to Miller’s fifth studio album ‘Swimming’, which was released in 2018.

Following the death of Miller in September 2018, Felix took a year out from working to spend time with his three children and concentrate on family life, with occasional projects such as, A R Rahman and Grand Philharmonic Orchestra, his Sunshine Orchestra and band, performing at the Ambani wedding in Mumbai, India.

Most recently, Felix worked again with Childish Gambino, from late 2019 until early 2020 and the release of his newest album, ‘3.15.20’.

Felix’s next steps are to focus on his NFT (Non-Fungible Token) project which you can hear more about online in his most recent interview.
