Femi Akinwunmi
<History of Egba><Maamis Diaries>
Femi Akinwunmi is the great-grandson of Akarigbo Oyelumade (Remo Koyelu ruling house), one of four ruling families of the Akarigbo; Lord and Ruler of Remo Kingdom. He is the grandson of Yeye Kaula, the great philanthropist and a very close friend of Mama Mary Efunyela Awolowo, mother of Chief Obafemi Awolowo, G.C.F.R. Akarigbo Oyelumade gave birth to Keku, great grandfather of Prince Samuel Akinwunmi, Femi's father. He is also linked to the throne of Alake of Egbaland through his maternal grandfather; the crown prince Majekodunmi Somoye, who modestly gave up his crown to lead as Balogun of Egbaland in the Adubi War and war of Chiefs of Abeokuta against the King of Dahomey. The popular historical Adubi War (Ogun Adubi) was the Egba People Uprising in Colonial Nigeria as a result of taxation introduced by the Colonial government.
The incident was the culmination of Abeokuta's independence and the introduction of direct taxation and abrogation of forced unpaid labor in Abeokuta. Balogun Somoye's favourite wife, Wemimo Somoye, gave birth to Niniola, who gave birth to Olayinka that later married Prince Samuel Akinwunmi. Chief(Mrs) Wemimo Somoye was a mother to all and a matriarch of Egbaland. Few of beneficiaries of her goodwill is the illustrious General Olusegun Obasanjo, who lived with her until he moved to the North with her elder sister.
Born to Prince Samuel Adekola Akinwunmi (Now Lisa of Latawa) and Chief Mrs Olayinka Akinwunmi, in Lagos on November 19, 1975, he attended Model Primary school in Isolo before becoming the youngest boy to ever gain admission into Remo Secondary School, Sagamu, Ogun State.
