Early Life and Education[edit]

Gbededo was born in Ajara-Vetho community in Badagry, Lagos state to parents of Ogu ethnic background. He began his primary education in his local community, after which he proceeded to Badagry Grammar School for his secondary schooling. He earned his Higher National Diploma in Chemistry at the Department of Science and Mathematics of the Yaba College of Technology in 1977. He proceeded to Plateau State in Central Nigeria for his mandatory national youth service.[3]

He furthered his education at The Polytechnic of North London (now London Metropolitan University), in the United Kingdom on a Lagos State Government bursary. While there, he obtained the Graduateship of Plastic and Rubber Institute (now collapsed into the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining), and the Associateship of the National College of Rubber Technology in 1980.[4]

Shortly afterwards, Gbededo was awarded a scholarship by the Federal Government of Nigeria to study for a Master of Science degree in Plastics and Polymer Engineering Technology at the Loughborough University in the United Kingdom. Career[edit]

Prior to going to London for his studies, Gbededo had a stint as a graduate employee at the Water Works Department of the Lagos State Ministry of Works. Upon completing his master's programme and returning to Nigeria, Gbededo secured an industrial attachment with the Nigeria Bag Manufacturing Company (BAGCO), an arm of the Flour Mills of Nigeria (FMN) Group in 1982. Just a few months into the traineeship however, Gbededo was offered and took a substantive position in the company as a Management Trainee. In just three years, Gbededo rose quickly to the position of Assistant Production Manager. He further acquired extensive experience serving in various managerial positions as Process Control Manager, Production Manager, and General Manager Production. In 1996, when there was a policy to encourage Nigerians to take over expatriate positions in industries, Gbededo ultimately became the first Nigerian Production Director of BAGCO. Two years later, he was moved from BAGCO to support a new subsidiary of the FMN Group, Golden Fertilizer company. He remained there for 15 years until 2013.[4]

In 2002, Gbededo was appointed as the pioneer managing director of Golden Pasta Company Limited, Iganmu, Lagos.[5] He served in that role for 4 years before being appointed to pioneer the conglomerate's rice business in 2009. When the Flour Mills’ growing number of subsidiaries were restructured into the FMN Group under three categories- Food, Agro Allied and Support Services, Gbededo was appointed as the pioneering managing director and Head of the Agro-Allied arm of the group in 2012.[6]

Gbededo was appointed as member of the board of directors and designate Group Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer on March 13, 2013. He fully assumed the position on April 1, 2013, and remained in that role for 7 years until his retirement on 31 December 2020 bringing a 38-year run with the FMN to a close on a very high note.[7][5] The company's Chief Operating Officer (COO), Mr. Omoboyede Olusanya, took Gbededo's place as the CEO effective from January 1, 2021.[8][9] Upon retirement, Gbededo assumed office as the Board Vice Chairman, sitting beside Mr. John Coumantaros, the board chairman.[10][11]
